The Platinum Award
The Platinum award is the highest honor you can receive as a member. In order to qualify for this award, you must have received the Outstanding Leadership award and the Ambassador award and be a member for at least 10 years.
The nominations for this award come from the board and the awards committee. So in other words, the member receiving the Platinum has been dedicated to AWA for years and in many capacities and has done it with an open heart and genuine desire to see the American Women’s Association prosper and continue in our community efforts of goodwill.
Our Platinum award recipient for 2009 is Nagda El-Ghandakly. Nagda joined in January 1999 and immediately became involved in the 1999 Cherry Tree Trot as a home leader, she then went on as chairperson of the craft group, she has been chairperson of the Lucky Draw, public relations chairperson, co-chaired Ramadan nights, co-chaired AWA craft fairs and bazaars, children’s parties. She was corporate sponsor chairperson for the 2008 CTT, she has served on the executive committee of AWA as membership chairperson, corresponding secretary. She has spent countless hours translating our constitution and other documents into Arabic and documents from Arabic into English. She has spent years working on various committees rarely ever saying that she can’t take on a job. She had a small break when she moved briefly to Turkey, but soon returned and resumed her AWA active involvement. She takes on any job with enthusiasm and finishes it to the end. In addition to her volunteerism with AWA she is a proud grandmother which is why it might explain her many travels these days.
The March 2009 Awards committee felt that there were two very deserving women to receive the Platinum award and wanted to recognize them both.
Our second Platinum award winner is Laila Hussain who joined AWA in 1996. She too has been involved since first joining; serving as corresponding secretary, public relations chairperson, hospitality chairperson and has been on the executive board for the past 5 years as community service chairperson and has made not only a difference to AWA but in the community as well. She has been responsible for organizing the homes attending the Cherry Tree Trot, organizing the T-shirts and posters for this event and has done it for years. She spends many hours attending community service events on behalf of AWA. I can’t even begin to try to figure out how many hours she donates to community service. She has been as a regular visitor to the Wednesday morning Elderly Home, where the residents look forward to her coming. She is the face of AWA in the community and represents us well. I have learned so much from her and she is truly someone to aspire to. Ambassador Ereli could you please present this Platinum Award to .
